Social Justice is such a HOT topic right now here in American and across the globe. I wonder how many of us realize that this is not something new in our society, but has been relevant since the beginning of time.
Think back to Adam and Eve, how their son Cain thought God gave preference to Abel over him. Cain thought God did not treat him ‘equal’ to his brother Abel. Cain grew so mad and got so upset, he murdered Abel! He killed his brother! Why? Because he thought God wasn’t treating him the same as his brother. This is not a reason to do wrong towards another, for any reason!
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widow’s cause,” (Isaiah 1:17). “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).
This is what Jesus said about social justice:
Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.” (Luke 10:30-37).
We are all created equal in the sight of God. We ‘must’ learn to treat everyone ‘equal’ as God has commanded.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a biblical concept spoken by Jesus in Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12; it is commonly referred to as the “Golden Rule.”
